Barbara A. Olson is a tax and business attorney with a background in working for  small and medium sized businesses, large corporations and the government.

Her diverse portfolio of work experience makes her uniquely qualified to provide professional legal counsel for businesses with issues ranging from complex tax and IP transactions to startup businesses that need assistance filing the correct legal structure when incorporating.

Work Experience

Since 1992, Barbara has been providing legal counsel to small and medium sized businesses and individuals in the areas of general business law, tax law and protection of intellectual property. She has worked with numerous small and medium sized businesses in the last several years and has helped her clients navigate setting up their legal structure, partnerships, client contracts, law suits and bankruptcy.

She has worked with a variety of businesses including distribution, manufacturing, web based, software, personal service, video production, real estate development, and gambling.

She spent nearly 10 years working for the Office of Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service as a senior attorney litigating income tax cases before the U. S. Tax Court, advising the IRS on collection and criminal issues, and acting as a Special Assistance U. S. Attorney for purposes of representing the IRS in U. S. Bankruptcy Court.

After completing a LLM in Taxation from New York University, she worked for Cargill, Inc., first in its’ Law Department and then its’ Tax Department dealing with Federal, State and International tax planning and compliance issues.

Pro Bono Work

Barbara has been a presenter at numerous SCORE workshops on legal issues related to starting and running a business. SCORE is funded by the Small Business Administration and provides on-going education for small businesses.

Barbara is also a facilitator at The Women’s Excelerator, lecturing on corporate structures, intellectual property, copy rights and contracts. The Women’s Excelerator is a program for women entrepreneurs that provide workshops, coaching and roundtables.
